The holdings cells, the dungeons of the Keeper's laboratories. These desolate and dreary basements revealed the true horrors in which the laboratories held, where poor unsuspecting shifters are held before being taken to their ultimate doom. Here, shifters are stuffed into tight quarters to wait for their experimentation or whatever diabolical scheme the Keepers had up their sterilized sleeves. The walls echoed of the wails and moans of the shifters that have been, and still are, locked up in the kennel-like cages. Dirt and sweat from the previous inhabitants encrusted the cage walls, filling the air with the awful stench of fear, dread and death. The cages were prisons, tiny places to gather the keepers little test subjects. The Keepers keep them in these cages because that's all the shifters were to the scientists, animals and guinea pigs that only existed for their sick and twisted scientific pleasure. It was this environment that the young and fairly innocent Isamu Koizumi awoke to as she stirred from her drugged slumber.
Isamu groaned as she finally was brought back to consciousness. Her whole body felt heavy and weak while her eyelids felt unusually heavy, making it difficult to open her eyes to her new surroundings. The fallen scout forced herself to stretch her arms and legs in order to wake the rest of her body up. She had always found that stretching helped her to feel more alert and awake as she got up, compared to just rolling off the bed and onto the floor. However, when Isamu opened her eyes she found that she was not where she expected to be. Usually Isamu would wake up on the worn-down (yet oddly comfy) couch in her cozy and cheery box-car, with her roommate Delilah-sama happily greeting her to the new day. Isa got no such such welcome. Instead, Isamu found herself in a dimly lit and very stinky cell with the only greeting being the whines and cries of the shifters in the cells next to her's. Any average shifter would have been scared out of their wits by the concept of being caged in, especially in that kind of environment. They would slam into the cage bars and scream and yell for their immediate freedom; but then again, Isamu wasn't the average shifter.
Instead of freaking out, Isamu's emerald eyes scanned the little cage, her eyes full of curiosity. Don't get her wrong, Isamu was terrified out of her mind, as anyone would be if they woke up to find themselves trapped in a dungeon of sorts. But Isamu didn't plan to waste energy freaking out when she could properly us that energy to figure out what was going on. She couldn't even remember how she had gotten captured in the first place, all she could remember was that she had been doing her scouting job and then...blank. That probably meant that the Keepers knocked her out somehow while she wasn't paying attention, which would then explain the missing chunk of memory. It must have caused her pain too since it was completely blank; Isamu's mind usually suppresses any painful memories so she wouldn't have to deal with them later. The scout wasn't sure if it was some subconscious form of protection or a result of all the head injuries she had received in Japan, but either way she tended not to remember painful things.
Once she had hypothesized how she got into the cell, her next question was how to get out. She needed to hurry back so she could continue to watch Adelina-chan, who she knew was probably off somewhere she shouldn't be since Isamu was stuck in here. The scout could only hope that the little girl was safe with her father or in the box-car waiting for Isamu's return, the latter being very unlikely. Isamu's first reaction was to find a way through the bars, but when her golden-brown skin came into contact with the cool metal a wave of electricity shot up her arm and through her system. With a high-pitched yelp Isamu pulled her hand away from the bars and brought it close to her chest, proceeding to then scoot to the wall farthest from the pain inducing, vertical strips of metal. Okay, maybe that wasn't her best idea. A sigh escaped Isamu's pink lips as she realized that the only exit was the electric bars holding her in. "I guess that means escape is out of the question..." Isamu muttered to herself, not really meaning to say it out loud, "Oh well, what can ya do?". On the bright-side however, maybe whatever the Keepers planned to do with her would be quick and then she could go back home to all of her friends. She wasn't really concerned about the pain factor, one would be surprised at exactly how much pain Isamu could tolerate. Isa was just wanted to go back to the Menagerie as soon as possible, for the cells gave her the creeps, and she didn't like it.
