As the sun started it's slow ascent towards the middle of the vast sky, soft pinks, purples and yellows gently diffusing the dark colors of the night sky before it. While at the same time the temperature slowly started to rise, second by second as the muted sunlight slid across the land and caused the creatures of the land to awaken as well. Causing the shadows of the few remaining trees to grow longer and longer, allowing the cool night air to keep it's grip on a small cluster of wood and stone houses. It was roughly a collection of twenty homes, all a bit on the large side to accommodate two or three families since wood was a precious commodity. Though, it wasn't quite as precious as water - the very source of all life in the land.
Wrapped in a luxuriously soft Fire wolf pelt that had once belonged to a Beta male of an old pack in the area, as it's new owner attempted to stay warm within the cold shadows of the trees. The elderly leopard carefully lowering himself into a squatting position, using one thin wrinkled hand to hold the fur tightly around his slim frame, while the other reached out and touched the dry earth before him. "The nights are growing colder with each one that passes, while it seems the warmer day hours are growing increasingly shorter... I fear the permanent cold has drawn ever closer than before.."
As the Elder of the Snow Leopard clan spoke to the wind in the early morning hours, a few miles away from the sizable encampment that housed the rest of the clan. One of the younger women sleepily rose from her furs, gently shrugging off her mate's strong arms and crawling over to the second set of furs near the fire. The soft whimpers coming from the small girls had penetrated her dreams, awakening her motherly instincts and urging her to soothe their troubled thoughts. Kneeling over the two girls, never noticing that there was one missing, slender hands stroking onyx colored tresses until they settled again.
Returning to her mate's side once she was sure the triplets were okay, slipping under the furs and snuggling back into his strong chest with a soft yawn, falling back asleep within seconds. While outside the large house, a small figure darted through the shadows towards the stand of trees near the base of the snowy mountain close by, it was time to go play with her new friend; the boy with the funny markings.
